Pallet Steel Cages: Key Features

Posted on

Pallet cages bring versatility to the way you can use pallets for both storage and distribution purposes. These products add solid or mesh sides to a regular pallet base. The sides allow you to carry oddly-shaped or larger items. They hold the things they carry more securely.

Before you order cage pallets, it's important to find the right ones for your needs. So, before you start, ask yourself the following questions.

How Can You Move the Pallets?

The way you currently move pallets is important here. You need to buy cages that fit in with your current equipment and working practices. While you can typically move a pallet steel cage with a standard forklift, some are also suitable for use with pallet jacks; some can even be lifted by crane.

Make sure to buy products that match your current moving and loading capabilities. You don't want to end up with a stock of pallets that you can't move easily without buying new equipment or machinery.

Are the Pallets Stackable?

The sides on a pallet cage make these products bigger than regular flat pallets. While this is useful for some loading and shipping needs, it can give you some space and storage headaches. If you will use the pallets to store goods in a warehouse, then you need to maximise the space you have.

If you're short on space, then you don't want to buy cages that aren't stackable. They will take up too much floor space and waste vertical space that you might otherwise want to use.

So, it's a good idea to buy steel cage pallets that are stackable. If you buy pallets with feet or bars that enable them to stand one on top of another, then they will take up less floor space and use height space more effectively. You can even turn them into individual pallet racks.

Do the Pallets Fold Down?

Bear in mind that you do need to store pallets when you aren't using them. If a cage isn't collapsible, then you'll need a fair amount of space to line or stack them up.

So, look for pallets that have collapsible sides. These products lie flat when you put down their sides. This significantly reduces their footprint size. You can store more of them in a smaller space until you're ready to use them.
